Abstract

Azam, M.G. and Howlider, M.A.R. 1998. Use of autoclaved and non-autoclaved parboiled rice polish as substitute of grain in broiler diet. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 14: 181–186. A total of 108-day old broiler chicks were fed on either of 3 different diets; a control (grained), a grainless parboiled rice polish (PRP) or a grainless autoclaved parboiled rice polish (APRP) diets to assess the effects of feeding grainless diets to broilers. Both PRP and APRP diet depressed feed intake and feed utilization with a consequent diminished growth rate (P<0.05) in comparison with those on control diet. Leg abnormalities significantly (P<0.05) differed among control, PRP and APRP diets. The dressing yield (%) and abdominal fat (%) were higher on control than those on either of PRP or APRP diet. The gizzard weight (%) and visceral weight (%) were higher on PRP and APRP diets than those on control. Despite decreased performance, PRP and APRP diets did not affect feed cost and total cost and, therefore, profit on each kilogram of live broiler produced.
