Introduction

Arecholine, conventionally known as Arecoline [1], is the major product or extract of areca nuts. There are various types of chemical compounds found in the areca nut, but Arecholine is the major or dominant psychoactive compound, which has a number of effects on man [2]. Betel nut, is ranked fourth among the most commonly abused substance in the world [3]. Studies have shown the association of chewing areca nut with cancer in humans, oral cancers [4,5]. Cancers of head and neck region are regarded as the 6thmost commonly occurring cancers in the world. In South and Central Asia, they are ranked as the 3rd most common types of cancer [6,7]
