Abstract

2 Polymerized VPS. Before fabricating provisional fixed restorations, the clinician is often required to eliminate natural and/or prosthetic proximal undercuts on adjacent teeth. This approach facilitates the retrieval of the provisional restoration during its fabrication without undue discomfort to the patient and/ or risk of distortion or fracture. A vinyl polysiloxane (VPS) indicator material (Fit Checker II; GC America, Alsip, Ill) can be used as an alternative to traditional materials such as dental wax to block out proximal undercuts during fabrication of fixed provisional restorations.1 The VPS indicating material offers several advantages for this purpose: 1) ease of application and retrieval, 2) tasteless and odorless characteristics, 3) lack of staining, 4) residue-free removal, 5) optimal adherence to adjacent structures, and 6) rapid polymerization time. A clinical situation is described in which the VPS indicating material was used for blocking out undercuts during the fabrication of an implantsupported provisional restoration.
