Abstract

A study was made of the conditions of preparation of titanium nitride powder by the hydrogen reduction of titanium tetrachloride in a nitrogen stream heated up in a SHF discharge. The overall degree of reduction of titanium tetrachloride attains 100%. The resultant powder contains up to 98% of the nitride, ammonium chloride being one of the impurities detected in it. A characteristic property of the resultant nitride is its satisfactory low-temperature sinterability.
