Abstract
An inexpensive hand-held metal detector has proved effective during colonoscopy in locating the fibre-endoscope tip at the splenic flexure or demonstrating the presence of a loop in the sigmoid colon. Endoscopic localisation without fluoroscopy may be inaccurate, and the metal detector, quick and easy to use, should be a useful adjunct to limited colonoscopy or fibresigmoidoscopy.
