Dispensing the mix of irreversible hydrocolloid as described should reduce trapped air while the impression tray is being loaded. If multiple impressions are to be made, the bags can be preloaded with preweighed irreversible hydrocolloid to save time. The clinical significance of this departure from the textbook method of adding powder to water in this procedure is not known, however, the water is rapidly and thoroughly incorporated into the irreversible hydrocolloid impression material, which is the main goal in making a good mix.
