Abstract

Stroboscopic nutation has proved to be invaluable for pulse width calibration (P. S. C. Wu and G. Otting, Rapid pulse length determination in high-resolution NMR, J. Magn. Reson. 2005, 176, 115–119), though it is not without its issues. Herein it is proposed that a correction factor be applied to correct for the inaccuracy of the method which is dependent on the NMR system including the probe, observed nucleus, sample type set (solvent, concentration, ionic strength, etc.), temperature, etc. Poor performance of the stroboscopic nutation experiment was also found to be a harbinger of a serious hardware problem.
