Abstract

Objective: Radiation exposure is a potential hazard to human population in the event of a nuclear bomb explosion. Early detection of radiation induced cardiomyopathy is important. We have shown that 2-dimensional strain echocardiography (2DSE) is more sensitive in detecting cardiomyopathy in rats from ischemic and doxorubicin injury compared to conventional ejection fraction (EF) measurement. Our aim is to compare 2DSE radial and circumferential strain and EF between rats exposed to radiation versus controls.
