Abstract

Usage statistics are considered one of the most important inputs for collection development and more librarians are looking for a usage-based impact factor to help with collection decisions. This article describes the Usage Factor project, sponsored by United Kingdom Serials Group (UKSG) and Counting Online Usage of Networked Electronic Resources (COUNTER), and its work in developing a credible usage-based measure for journal impact.
