Abstract

In the ongoing war of the United States of America against international terrorism, one of its main opponents in Africa is the Al-Qaida-affiliated Somali Islamist Group Al-Shabaab. In analyzing in the context of the development of U.S. politics towards Somaliа, the emergence of Al-Shabaab, its current terrorist activities resulting in heavy civilian casualties, and present confrontation with the United States, the African Union and Somali National army, the author concludes that military efforts alone are insufficient to eliminate it completely. Priority must be given to the fundamental socioeconomic changes in Somaly society in order to end total unemployment of the deprived of any future prospects Somali youth, which is the main human resource for Al-Shabaab.
