Abstract

This article provides a critical analysis of Israel’s so called «strategy of non-identification» with any of the political blocs declared in early 1950s in the midst of the bipolar confrontation on the background of the Washington’s regional defense initiatives, particularly the project «Middle East Command» at the beginning of 1950s. Analysis of various archive documents (from the archives of US Department of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of USSR and Israel) reveals various informal negotiations, secret covenants of Israel with the United States in terms of the cold war escalation, which actually laid the grounds for Tel-Aviv-Washington strategic partnership. It was revealed that declared by Israel external «strategy of non-identification» with any block in fact initially was of declarative, purely formal nature (with simultaneous constant rapprochement with the United States). Israel acted as latent linchpin in building Pro-Western military political system in the region.
