Abstract

Missiles launched from unmanned aircraft to disrupt al-Qaeda and related groups outside the recognised conflict zones of Iraq and Afghanistan have become a key weapon in Washington's counter-terrorism armoury. Judging that this campaign is central to the national-security interests of the United States, President Barack Obama has intensified it, proving wrong those who believed that it would be abandoned along with the rhetoric of former President George W. Bush's ‘war on terror’.
