Significance Shares of leading Indian IT companies such as Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Wipro have plummeted since the draft 2017 Protect and Grow American Jobs Act was introduced in Congress by Republican lawmakers with support from new US President Donald Trump’s administration. If enacted, the bill would drastically alter visa rules, making it more difficult and expensive for Indian companies to service US-based contracts. Impacts The bill, if passed, would deepen the slowdown in Indian services growth. This would directly affect India’s GDP growth and domestic consumption. Strains in India-US economic ties could impede closer defence cooperation.
