Abstract

Abstract This chapter focuses on the US State of Virginia's Colonial National Historical Park (CNHP) and the two theme parks that have developed in its vicinity. The CNHP, with its built heritage and natural heritage sites, has limited absorption capacities, and variable sensitivity levels to visitor pressures. The high-capacity nearby theme parks absorb surplus pressures, and enable the managed visitor capacity in the heritage park to function, and achieve quality maintenance and sustainability. Although an evident lack of integrity in the theme parks' displays or stories is noted, their choice of siting in relation to markets is good, and makes the parks viable for their financial backers.
