Abstract

Reducing child poverty is no longer an unrealized aspiration of advocates and pediatricians. With the expansion of the child tax credit in the American Rescue Plan, it has become, finally, a viable goal on the national agenda. A timely question is what health care policy can do to advance this goal. The answer starts with appreciating the role of the US health care system in fostering economic hardship in the first place.
