Abstract

At great expense, the US and China have developed the capability to not only launch people into space, but also to develop weapon systems capable of conducting warfare in space. The plan of action guiding the decisions concerning the civil and military space programs in the US are described in the 2006 US Space Policy document, whereas China’s civil space activities are described in a government White Paper, published in 2006. This chapter provides an overview of these documents and discusses the space policies of each country.
