Abstract

A procedure is described for the sequential determination of arsenite and arsenate in samples of natural waters. It is based on the extraction of arsenic(III) with ammonium sec-butyl dithiophosphate and measurement, after re-extraction into water, by graphitefurnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Reduction of arsenic(V) allows its subsequent determination. The method is applied to fresh and sea water samples. The detection limit is 6 ngl-1.
