Abstract

We report an isotropic linewidth increase below TN∼17K for 29Si NMR in URu2Si2. We discuss why this feature had not been seen in previous NMR experiments and analyze its temperature and external field (magnitude and orientation) dependence. The extra width is static, corresponds to a distribution of effective local fields at 29Si sites, and does not seem to be due to internal fields produced by the antiferromagnetic structure observed via neutron diffraction. The size of nuclear RKKY interactions appear too small to account for our measurements.
