Abstract

Recently we have become very impressed with a hitherto unpublicized source of poisoning for children, namely the female purse. Medication carried in the purse for personal use is a ready source of poisons for the curious child, who customarily seeks candy, gum, and other treasures within the purse or handbag. Multicolored pills and tablets not intended for the child are often carried, and easily accessible. The awareness of this additional source of potential and actual poisoning in childhood led us to make a random survey of 300 females accompanying children to our various clinics. These ladies included mothers, grandmothers, and other relatives and friends.
