Abstract

A wide range of abnormalities in the genito-urinary system predispose to infection and surgical solutions may be appropriate. This review considers the investigation of obstruction and the relationship between urinary infections and renal damage, chronic renal disease, renal abscesses, reflux, calculi, catheterization and instrumentation, the neuropathic bladder and prostatitis as well as the role of antibiotic prophylaxis in urological surgery. Recommendations for the urosurgical management of urinary infection are made.
