Abstract

During the years between 1986-1990, 17 women with genitourinary complication resulted from previous gynecologic surgery were seen at Chung Shan Medical & Dental College Hospital in Taichung Taiwan. Eleven women had injured ureters. Six had vesicovaginal fistulas. Of the women with ureteral injuries, 1 had a ureteral strictrue which was treated by using an antegrade ureteral stent. The other 10 had ureterovaginal fistulas which were resolved by ureteroureterostomy or ureteroneocystostomy after a waiting interval for more than 4-6 weeks post-poeratively. Follow-up urogram showed good drainage in all patients. Unfortunately, no cases of vesicovaginal fistulas were referred to our department earlier than 2 months following their gynecologic surgery, so no vesicovaginal fistulas closed spontaneously. Of the 6 women who presented with vesicovaginal fistulas, all were repaired using the abdominal transvisical approach and 2 of them with uretero-neocvstostomy concomitantly. Primary healing took place in all patients.
