Abstract
The Valentine formation represents the lowermost Pliocene, perhaps extending into the uppermost Miocene. Two salamanders are described on the basis of specimens from the lower Valentine of Brown County, Nebraska. Cryptobranchus mccalli n. sp. appears very similar to the extant C. alleganiensis, but apparently attained a somewhat greater size. Ambystoma minshalli n. sp. is probably a member of the maculatum group of the subgenus Ambystoma.
