Abstract

Excretion of testosterone (T) and epitestosterone (EpiT) in human urine was studied using conventional Chromatographic techniques in addition to gas liquid chromatography. Mean T excretion (μg/24 hours) in normal male subjects was 58.1 (range 10.5–173), normal females 6.3 (range 1.5–13), hirsute females 9.2 (range 1.5–35) and virilized females 21 (range 9–33.6). Mean EpiT excretion (μg/24 hours) for normal males was 166.4 (range 8.7–396), normal females 11.1 (range 6.5–19.6), hirsute females 224,7 (range 55–641), virilized females 277.7 (range 34–489). The possible sources and significance of epitestosterone are discussed.
