Abstract
Direct and fast determination, and better recovery of the total urinary glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) can be obtained by passing urine directly through a Dowex 1-X2 column. An improvement of the method of determination of the low molecular weight and high molecular weight GAG consists of extracting with Pentan-1-o1 the cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) used for precipitating the high molecular weight glycosaminoglycans. Other advantages are the possibility of scaling down the method to very small volumes of urine and easier analytical determination of urinary mucopolysaccharides.
