Abstract

Ureteral obstruction following Burch colposuspension is a rare complication: a review of the literature revealed only 11 cases. The authors present four more cases of ureteral obstruction following Burch colposuspension. None of the patients had had previous pelvic surgery. Three of the patients developed bilateral ureteral obstruction. Surgical intervention was able to prevent permanent renal damage in all patients. Two of the patients had recurrence of stress urinary incontinence, which was subsequently successfully repaired with a pubovaginal sling procedure.
