Urbanization of the Tokyo metropolitan area and its thermal condition using LANDSAT MSS and NOAA-6/AVHRR data

Abstract

The environmental changes of the following items are discussed by analysing LANDSAT MSS and NOAA-6/AVHRR data:1.(1) On the development of golf courses2.(2) On the reclamation along the shoreline of Tokyo Bay3.(3) On the thermal distribution around Tokyo Bay,Among the above items, two the most distinctive during last decade are the reclamation of Tokyo Bay and the development of residential area in the suburbs. Though many golf courses are recognized in this area, these golf courses mostly were developed about ten years ago.Finally, it is noted that the thermal distribution of this area corresponds well with the city ground surface condition.
