Abstract

Consumer behavior is an understudied determinant of residential water and electricity demand and, when studied, capturing, measuring, and quantifying attitudes and behaviors is often problematic. This research explores behavioral determinants of the demand for water and electricity, contributing a set of categories and items that may be useful for understanding knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to consumption and constructing valid scales. These results may help researchers capture the complexity of consumer behavior regarding water and electricity and decision-makers in designing tailored demand management strategies.
