Abstract

The poor who are disconnected from their kin make up a significant portion of the caseloads of clinicians working in urban centers, but have received insufficient attention from the family therapy field. This paper suggests a treatment approach focusing on social connections as the essential starting point of therapy. Specific case examples describe practical approaches to minimally available fathers, single parent mothers and individuals with no known family connections.
