Abstract

This article, based on studies carried out for the urban motorways committee, discusses the physical effects of operating urban motorways and techniques for measuring them under headings of: noise, visual effects, pollution, vibration and severance. The next section considers survey methods for measuring social and psychological consequences. Economic costs and benefits for householders, trades, travellers and other groups are examined. /TRRL/
