Abstract

This article defines the term ‘urban internal spatial structure’ and summarizes a schematic view of research areas related to urban internal spatial structure. Specifically, discussions are included of the observation of urban internal spatial structure, identification of driving forces of urban spatial structure, and investigation of the connection between urban spatial structure and a variety of outcomes, such as land and housing market performances, environmental safety and quality, and individual well-being.
