Abstract

AbstractThis chapter focuses on the urban green spaces by offering a critical review of urban green space development in in SENA countries and case cities. Using the related data and literature together with the author’s own research, the chapter analyzes patterns and development trends of urban green spaces in case cities of SENA compared with cities globally. Section 6.1 provides a global overview of urban green space. Patterns and development of urban green spaces in North Asia, East Asia, and Southeast area are elucidated in Sects. 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4. In addition, the relationship between urbanization and green are explored through analyzing the interrelatedness of urbanization, economic development, and urban green spaces. It is found that while SENA cities differ in green space provision, cities in North Asia and Mongolia suffered low level of urban green space provision. Two environmental impacts of urban green space on SENA cities, urban heat islands and air pollution mitigation, are explored in Sect. 6.5.
