Abstract

The Section builds off a successful year in 2007 when a quarterly newsletter and field trip were implemented. In addition, for 2007 the Section sponsored a successful symposium proposal and supported a second symposium. During the 2007 business meeting at the ESA Annual Meeting at San Jose, California, members voted to support travel awards for students presenting at the 2008 ESA meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sonja Djuricin, University of California, Irvine PS 52–175: A comparison of atmospheric methods for determining the sources of atmospheric CO2 in urban ecosystems. Charles Hofer, Rutgers University New Brunswick PS 52–174: If you build it, will they stay? Using passerine nestlings as bioindicators of heavy metal accumulation at a former brownfield site. Yvette Williams, University of Maryland Baltimore County PS 52–171: Investigating vegetation dynamics of vacant lots and community gardens in an urban watershed. With the travel awards, the current officers have met the objectives established for their term: to establish a quarterly newsletter, sponsor a fieldtrip, and implement travel awards. Without the support of Paige and Paul, these objectives would not have been met. The Section will be meeting during the ESA Annual Meeting on 5 August. The objectives for the meeting will be nominating new officers, discussing topics for next year's symposium and field trip, and presenting the students with their travel awards.
