Urban development in Iran is discussed with a focus on the housing and development sectors as well as the urban policies that have shaped Iranian cities in the past few decades. The focus is then placed on urban development in Tehran, outlining the city’s formation, its rapid expansion, and its current spatial structure. Further, the development industry in Tehran is analysed through discussions on the property market’s behaviour, various types of developers that operate, and the current housing conditions.
