Abstract

The objective of this research is to generate new knowledge to estimate the potential benefit of digital media within communication for sustainable development of urban cultural landscapes. This dissertation project is being conducted in cooperation with the University of Bonn. It will investigate the way regional parks in Germany communicate the importance of urban cultural landscape in German metropolitan regions by using digital media and how it could be done better in future. The empirical investigation will be carried out in an interdisciplinary working process with the combination of theory and practice. It is focused on three parts of the research, to better identify the current situation of using digital media, its potentials for development and finally, with the help of examples, to show its advantages and opportunities. The results of this work will provide a solid basis for building advanced communication, which promotes the public involvement and information, the citizen participation for urban development, the appreciation for the urban cultural landscapes and for contributing to the field of environmental communication and awareness-raising on urban environmental issues.
