Abstract

A limited number of researches observed the relative effect of urban agriculture on sustainable food security, which influences the decisions of urban dwellers in Pakistan regarding food choices. Based on the food preferences of consumers, this study examined the direct effects of various urban agriculture determinants on food safety. Therefore, we adopted the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale; to determine food security because of its quantitative nature, which is highly computable. The authors collected the data by using a structured questionnaire and applied structural equation modeling using analysis of a moment structures version 23 for current hypothetical study. The empirical results described that urban agriculture positively contributes to the household sustainable food security of urban dwellers and assist in building livelihood strategies. Considering the key contribution of urban agriculture to transform the sustainable food security of urban dwellers, we endorse the enactment of legislation to create and support the urban agriculture program in Pakistan. This study also proposed for the future researcher to describe ways and the impact of urban agriculture on urban farmers’ livelihoods. Urban farmers and major stakeholders are expected to get benefit from this research to design market-oriented strategies for food security.
