Abstract

THE permissible limit of uranium in drinking water is 30 μg l –1 as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). The accumulation of uranium inside the human body targets the kidneys and lungs due to chemical and radioactive effects. Drinking water is the major source of uranium to the human body and contributes about 85% of ingested uranium, food contributes the remaining 15%.
