Abstract

Abnormalities of the pharynx and larynx are frequently associated with respiratory obstruction. The air normally found in this area serves as excellent contrast material, so that most of the lesions discussed may be readily visualized without the need for complex studies. Any suggestion of respiratory distress that might originate high in the airway should suggest specific examination of the neck. This area should be included in the radiologic examination of any patient with prolonged, chronic or recurrent respiratory distress or sinusitis or nasal discharge.
