Abstract

The precession camera can be used to record the entire reciprocal lattice out to 1 rlu using one crystal orientation. For the data so recorded to be useful it is necessary to have the Lorentz polarization correction in some convenient form. The correction has been computed at about 1300 points in reciprocal space. In the present paper (Part I) the computation is presented as a series of sections showing 1/L.p as a function of ξ and ζ at constant values of τ. In the succeeding paper (Part II, by Grenville-Wells and Abrahams) the correction is presented as a function of ξ and τ at constant values of ζ, where the sections at constant ζ have been obtained by graphical means from the sections at constant τ.
