Abstract

Question: A 65-year-old man with no past medical history presented to our hospital with dysphagia. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed hemorrhagic irregular mucosa with stenosis in the esophagus (Figure A), which was diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by pathologic examination. After fluorouracil and cisplatin were dosed as neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the patient underwent a subtotal esophagectomy with gastric tube reconstruction. Postoperative pathological examination revealed moderately differentiated SCC with lymph node metastasis.
