Upper and lower bounds to van der Waals force constants from half-integer oscillator strength sums

Abstract

Simple formulas involving oscillator strength sums S( k), with half-integer k, are shown to give an asymptotic series of upper and lower bounds to van der Waals coefficients. Estimates of the bounds are calculated for several pairs of atoms.
