Abstract

Head and neck cancer is frequent in Europe, especially in Southern and Western Europe. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most frequent histological type. It is mainly a disease of men and is associated with alcohol and tobacco abuse. The estimated incidence of oral cavity and pharyngeal cancer in Europe in 2008 was 92,000 [1]. Western and Southern Europe are areas with a high incidence of oral cavity cancers (10 per 100,000) [2].
