Abstract

This paper presents the results of hardening various ferrous sintered alloys by gas carbonitriding in the medium of ammonia and carbon dioxide. The results show the effect of alloy compositions, temperatures (570, 720°C) and duration of carbonitriding (5, 10, 15, 30, 60 min) upon the properties of the saturated layers such as hardness, density, phase composition and microstructure, obtained by different methods of gas carbonitriding. Some data is given for the change of weight (Δ G/ G 0) and of sizes (Δ D and Δ H) of the samples under different conditions of carbonitriding.
