Abstract

More than three years ago, this column discussed ongoing research on global lightning fatalities and described some of the activities and organizations devoted to reducing those fatalities <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="ref1" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">[1]</xref> . It is time for an update, focusing on the work being done by the African Centers for Lightning and Electromagnetics Network (ACLENet) <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="ref2" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">[2]</xref> . A close look at the ACLENet website shows the diverse ongoing efforts by this organization and many improvements in its website content, which is available to anyone for research and communication about this issue.
