Abstract

In October last year, 300 or so doctors attended the third Improving Working Lives for Doctors conference organised by the Department of Health. The programme included equality and diversity, modernising medical careers, and doctors' health. Journalist and television presenter Nick Ross chaired the event, which included having interactive keypad votes on various topics. The results highlight what doctors think are the important issues in improving their working lives (see box). Although the feedback from delegates in the official evaluation forms was mostly positive, we are now a few months on. So has all the energy and enthusiasm of the conference dissipated or is the Department of Health still on the case? I asked David Amos, deputy director of human resources from the Department of Health, to share his views.
