Abstract

JAVMA, Vol 221, No. 11, December 1, 2002 Two recent studies by KPMG LLP1 and Brakke2 noted that veterinarians’ real incomes are falling, veterinary skills have potential gaps, employers’ expectations are unmet, and many veterinarians are unwilling or unable to gain employment in a wide variety of settings that could potentially use their skills. These studies suggest that the present knowledge, skills, aptitudes, and attitudes of veterinarians may be inadequate when compared with those required for optimum professional success. The following projects have been designed to address these issues.
