Abstract

AbstractSince the introduction of the last major iteration of the Boston Type I keratoprosthesis in 2002, it has undergone several improvements, including the development of a titanium back plate in two sizes, a click‐on version, and the recently introduced Lucia. The Lucia is currently available in one aphakic power with a blue or brown back plate that incorporates radial slit apertures to both allow aqueous nutrition of the carrier donor cornea and simulate the natural iris. Moreover, the Lucia can be produced at low cost, making it more accessible to those in need around the world.
