Some of the selected articles reflect the increasing importance of geriatric care in hospital medicine, with research on geriatric syndromes (delirium, functional impairment, and polypharmacy) that can adversely affect patient outcomes. Others address common conditions leading to hospital admission in the United States (1); these include sepsis, pulmonary embolism in syncope, pneumonia, urinary tract infection, nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, and cellulitis.
