Abstract

Nanophosphors based on NaM(WO4)2 (M = Gd, Y) doped with Yb3+/Ho3+ were synthesized in situ by a surfactant-assisted hydrothermal route. The average crystallite size of obtained nanophosphors was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Uniform nanocrystals of NaM(WO4)2 (M = Gd, Y) doped with Yb3+/Ho3+ formed without calcination showed homogenous morphology with a particle size of 20–40 nm. The synthesized nanophosphors exhibited green up-conversion luminescence of the Ho3+ ion under 976 nm excitation, as the combination of emission bands at 538 nm (green region), 655 nm (red region) and 752 nm, which were attributed to the transitions 5S2/5F4→5I8, 5F5→5I8 and 5S2/5F4→5I7 respectively.
