Abstract

There are two established techniques of prostate biopsy: transrectal technique (the more widely used) and the transperineal technique. Although the transrectal technique is easier and faster, it is reported to have a lower rate of prostate cancer (Pca) detection. We evaluated the improvement in the rate of Pca detection using a standard versus an end- curved biopsy needle (ECN). This new tool allows-us to obtain an entire core from the peripheral zone (miming the transperineal technique). The biopsy needle enters the peripheral prostate at the apex with a straight longitudinal direction.
