Abstract

In August 1984, Sanjukai Hospital started the very first case of shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) in Japan as a minimally-invasive treatment, and has been one of the leading institutes of stone treatment for these past 27 years. We retrospectively reviewed the treatment outcomes of SWL in our single institute using Dornier HM3 (HM3; 1984-2009), Philips Litho Diagnost M (LDM; 1994-2008), and Dornier Lithotripter S II (S II; 2009-2010), and analyzed recent efficiencies and adverse effects of SWL using the new S II compared with our historical controls using LDM and HM3.
